Design of optical systems based on polarization

ARCoptix is specialized in the simulation of polarization based optical systems. We dipose of performant polarization ray-trace programs and many years of experience in the field of polarization optics design.

Our simulations programs are also able to track phase and polarization information. This is the ideal tool if you want to simulate interferential and polarization effects of systems using polarized and coherent light sources such as Lasers .

We have also the possibility to simulate angular behavior of complex birefringent systems such as Liquid crystal displays with dedicated commercial simulation programs that are based 4x4 matrices calculation methods (Berreman matrices). As a specialty we have developed modules that allow rigorous simulation of light fields through spatial inhomogeneous liquid crystal structures.

Characterization of birefringent elements

Characterization of birefringent materials is one of Polaroptic specialties. We dispose of sophisticated lab equipment and the know-how that permits us to make conoscopic and retardation measurements in polarized light. From these measurements we are able to determine:

  • Orientation of the optical axes
  • Refractive indices
  • Sign of the birefringence
  • Scattering properties
  • relative and absolute retardations (or optical path)

The characterization of birefringent thin films and liquid crystal panels is one of our specialties.

We have also the possibility to characterize sheet polarizers for transmission and extinction ratio.

Design and Production of Liquid crystal devices

special LC cell design variable focal point

Electrodes design for LC Fresnel lenses

The strong partnership between ARCoptix and liquid crystal industry enables us to offer our customers some unique services. We can produce some small series of active (or passive) LC devices custom designed electrodes. These devices that are manufactured on an industrial production line are highly reproducible and robust.

We offer the possibility to produce LCDs with thin 2x0.3mm glass substrates compared to the industry standard of 2x0.55, 0.7 and 1.1mm glass substrates, which may be too thick for your application.
